ECHN Fundraising Campaign Exceeds $9 mil. goal

Gift originally pledged in 1920's added to campaign contributions

MANCHESTER, CT - (Nov 3, 2006) - The most ambitious capital campaign in the history of the Eastern Connecticut Health Network (ECHN) recently drew to a close bringing in an unprecedented $9.5 million in donations. The original goal for the Milestones Capital Campaign, which began in 2002, was set at $9 million.
Overl,100 donations were made to the campaign. Funds were raised in support of:

1)thenew SBM Charitable Foundation Family Birthing Center at Manchester Memorial Hospital
2) the Rockvi I IC General Hospital facility upgrade, which included the construction of an expanded modem Emergency Department
3) a proposed 30-bed addition to Woodlake At Tolland, ECHN's long-term/ short-term rehabilitation facility.

The most significant donation came from the estate of E. Stevens Heinry, a textile industrialist who in 1920 set aside $100,000 of his estate for the building and maintenance of a hospital for the town of Rockville. As planned, the funds were placed in a Trust at the time of donation and went toward supporting Mr. Henry's wife and subsequently their granddaughter. The granddauchter, Lucina Ackerly, passed away in 2004, at which time the Trust reverted to ECHN. In the intervening 84 Years the original $100,000 had grown to a sum of $1.9 million, a testament to the value of securities and trusts donated to charitable organizations.

"The positive community response to our fund-raising campaign reflects the great loyalty and sense of ownership that area residents feel towards their healthcare facilities," said Peter Karl, President and CEO of ECHIN. "Through the exceptional success of the Milestones Capital Campaign, we have funds to undertake important projects that will build on our state-of-the-art healthcare facilities, as well as enable the continued attraction of highly qualified medical health professionals to the ECHN network."
